Stay Calm

Nice shot by JH Peterson during thursday's NYYC Race Week, the trick is just to relax and go with flow. I've never hit anyone - seriously. Have I got yelled at, maybe... and by not just yacht owners.
Check out all the pics from the race week here

Pumpkin Island on the Reach

Shooting the Reach Today with friends out for the ride! What a beautiful day for a sail.

Beluga!

Got the gyro going for this, I'm glad the Honda has pretty much perfect touch control because shooting this with no driver was slightly tricky... what a fantastic boat to shoot and sepia tone... just call me Morris Rosenfield please! Now if I could just sell my collection to the mystic seaport museum for a million I could by that helicopter I've been eyeing on ebay...

Lift Off!

I chased this eagle in the photo boat at top speed across Rockport Harbor after seeing him out by the lighthouse, and he landed in the trees across the harbor and I got out the big lenses to capture him taking off again. It's great to Eagles making a comeback on the coast of maine and beautiful to see one this close.

Halfway Rock Light

Not a really windy day for shooting yachting anywhere, so after about 10 hours sorting photos in the office, I headed out to Halfway Rock with the ipod, snapped this shot and headed back in the dark...I think the the trip was worth it, I'd never actually been there by boat, though I have some nice aerials of this I wanted the sunset shot.

Perfect Summer Cruising in Maine

Fantastic sailing days and lots of cruisers out on the beautiful Maine Coast thursday and saturday. Shot a bunch beautiful yachts with some great backdrops, here's the track map with locations of a few good ones! If you weren't out sailing these two days you need to think hard about what you are doing with your boat!

Contrasting Lifestyles

Ken and I were heading out to Swans Island to pick up the 17' Montauk so he could shoot the Atlantic Regatta over in Blue Hill. This mega yacht comes along with this woman doing a workout on the deck with ipod on and clearly some added hardware... meanwhile a bunch of schooner people are going the other way checking out the whole scene. Now there's some "contrast" for you... hmm... who looks like they are having more fun?

Peeks Island Ferry at Sunset

I lived on Peaks Island for a winter back in the early 90's what a beautiful spot. Here's the ferry coming into to Peeks last night... wow how'd I'd catch the moon so perfectly?

Down East Race, Cape Rosier, The Reach, Swans

Some beautiful backdrops here shooting down Down East Race Weeks final day racing from Castine around Cape Rosier and Under the Deer Isle Bridge as well as some nice cruising shots around Pumpkin Island. That's my dad's Francis 26 Petrel on the mooring with the moonrise in Mackeral Cove on Swans Island where he spends the summer.

Casco Bay - what a day

Well I was on a mission to shoot Wendameen at this angle today for an artist... I think I did a pretty good job on that one, then I bombed around and got some other great shots, and really got a nice tangle on the prop and had to get out not only a knife but even pliers to get this all off as it was really jammed up in the crevase between the prop and lower unit, not a pretty site, it took me about 15 minutes, and I was way out there at point #21!

Maine Boat and Harbors Show!

Fun to be on the other side of the camera for a change! Nice shot by Jeff Scher who was shooting for Six River Marine, who builds these beautiful boats.

Castine to Camden Feeder Race Finish

This day started out just foggy as all heck, but there was a glimmer of hope at the finish... then some rays of sun!
