Red, White & Blue under the gate

From the St. Francis yacht club, you get a great view of the final leg of the Big Boat Series races, where the boats finish right off the club. Never seen such a bunch with only the colors of the american flag!

Cover Model

Well I didn't take the photo, but I made it ON the cover, my friend Scott Conrad builds these boats at Six River Marine in Yarmouth, so we (me and my summer intern) were the willing models. The backround is the rockland breakwater lighthouse.

Sunset Sail, Boothbay Maine

Great sunset on this day off boothbay, lucky there was a sailboat just going by headed out towards Sequin Island, the highest navigational light on the Maine coast.

Seals + Schooner + Lighthouse = Classic Maine

The Schooner "Juno" coasts into the fox island thoroughfare near Stonington Maine with a legion of seals keeping dry during the Classic Feeder race from Camden to Brooklin Maine.

I'll take one

Heron

Got to go Sailing on the beautiful schooner heron, a daysailer out of Rockport Maine... the wind picked up nice and we were doing 8 knots across penobscot bay, what a great day for a sail! (that's my cousin Melissa steering) More of my pics and info on Heron here.

Cruising World 2010 Calendar Cover

Got the cover of the new Cruising World 2010 Calendar... featuring Bass Harbor lighthouse in Maine. Nice to see some sun at least in Print!

Windcheck Cover

Windcheck cover this month... One of those shots that kind of just appeared with bridge in the backround there, was covering a round the island race in Newport, but this beauty was just out sailing... you never know what you'll get, that's one of the fun things about heading out in the boat, it's never what you expect!

Delicate Arch with Rainbow

So you are probably thinking I "lucked out" with this shot... but that's not entirely true. Using the new "Rainbow Finder" app on the iphone made this shot fairly straight forward, the way it works is that whenever iphone users see a rainbow they all point at it with there iphones, and it triangulates the location of it based on all the iphones locations, then sends this info to XM's weather radio satellites which then transmit the information to my cessna's satellite weather system... I then wrote some custom software that puts the plane on autopilot to the exact jump location, and when the light goes green I jump out and land right at the spot where I can get this kind of perfect rainbow shot...

Mtn. Biker on the world famous Slickrock trail with La Sal Mtns. in the backdrop just before sunset in Moab Utah.

Salty Sailing

The Ulimate 20 "Hard Drive" doing some Salty Sailing on the Great Salt Lake, UTAH... no she didn't win Miss America today, but I think this is a pretty shot.

Maroon Bells, Apsen Highlands

Maroon Bells near Aspen Highlands. I was surprised to find this place so untracked, it was a 6 mile uphill XC ski in, but for an outdoor town with like 20 mountain shops, you'd think there'd be at least a few people up here in one of the most photographic spots around? Do people just buy the gear, then buy a photo and say they went there? I think this was worth the 12 mile round trip ski, just made it back at dusk... lucky it was all downhill back...

SAIL cover April

Shot this off Camden Maine on one of those perfect NW sailing days, Camden is my hometown, and where I worked at the Yacht Club in the summer's driving the Yacht Club Launch, what a fun job that was, and let me into this fun career chasing sailboats around. This pic is of a J100, the perfect family daysailer and racer.

Caught a UFO flying by the sliver moon!

Stopped on route 550 last night between Ridgeway and Montrose Colorado to shoot this sliver moon, all was eerily quiet then out of nowhere, something went whizzing by when I got back I saw this streak of light going through the picture, all I can conclude is this is certainly a ALIEN spacecraft, Wow I never thought I'd catch one in a million years!

COYOTES in Telluride Colorado.

COYOTES in Telluride Colorado. Had to jump over a barb wire fence with my 900mm in one hand to catch these shy coyotes... the skiing and boarding is great here, and so is the photography, what a beautiful spot!

Discovery Launch!

Wow! This launch was amazing since the launch happened 10 minutes after sunset, the plume was illuminated at the apex, this image show the seperation of the main tanks and the amazing cloud. The twist in the cloud is a result of the rotation of the shuttle soon after lift off... witnessing this in person is truly amazing, the power of the rocket engines is simply awesome.

It's in the details... when you look at what it takes to be good... here Erika Reineke, just 15, rounding the weather mark at the Women's Laser NA's in Ft. Nice shot here of Privateer heading for Jamaica in the Montego Bay Race, they won this one, check out all my photos of the start, I'm glad I was not shooting from a boat on this one.
